Internally to the network, to track user activity on file servers we use File System Auditor from ScriptLogic which detects and logs all files being opened, changed, read, moved, deleted, renamed etc.  Reports can be done on the fly or at intervals set by you and are in an easy to read, logical format.  Should you have suspected users abusing the system, then reports can be as granular as you like pin pointing their exact activities, at what time etc. You spend plenty of time and money worrying about your premesis security, your Internet security, work place safety etcetera; do you even consider the greatest potential threat of all?  It's worthwhile knowing what your staff are doing with  your information!
